What Does Hope
Mean To You?
Mental Health Awareness Art Show

Thank you so much for visiting!
My name is Hannah, and I'm a Girl Scout Ambassador working towards my Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest honor in Girl Scouts. To earn it, the girl must identify an issue in the community and lead a sustainable project to help solve the issue and make a positive and lasting impact. For my Gold Award, I chose to host an art show dedicated to mental health, featuring different types of artists who have each created an art piece that represents what gives them hope.
Around 1 in every 5 U.S. youth struggles with anxiety. From 50% to 80% of anxiety disorders go undiagnosed and unrecognized. According to NAMI, (national alliance on mental illness) sharing your own stories can reduce stigma, help people connect with each other, and be a catalyst for change. There is such a big stigma surrounding mental health, even despite the progress we have made as a society in understanding mental health issues. However it seems like people only fully understand and/or care about mental health issues if they have experienced them first hand. I hope that some day, people can understand mental health issues without having to experience them.
